📖 TRANSCRIPT + TIME STAMPS:

[00:00:00] Chelsea Riffe: What's up everybody? Welcome back to In My Non-Expert Opinion I'm your host, Chelsea Riffe, and today you are in for treat with my guest, Lexi Merritt. Lexi is a writer and launch strategist who spent the last decade helping creative business owners get their ideas seen online. What she's absolutely genius at is helping you build an intuitive creative practice while using elements of design thinking, behavioral psychology, and digital strategy to co-create a new way of showing up that feels aligned with what you actually want your life to look like.

[00:00:40] Chelsea Riffe: She currently lives in Washington, DC and is most often found writing in a cafe or library. I got the honor and privilege to work with Lexi last summer when I was traveling around Europe. I really needed help with Mic Drop and just revamping it and remarketing what it was really about. As you guys know, my favorite thing to do is help people launch podcasts and [00:01:00] share their voice.

[00:01:00] Chelsea Riffe: And I feel like I just wasn't telling the story in the best way and I felt like I wasn't outlining it in the absolute best way that I could. And so I invested into a VIP day with Lexi and she totally helped me revamp Mic Drop. So by the way, when you go to Mic Drop and you see that sales page and you see the copy and the marketing and everything, that was all with Lexi's help.

[00:01:20] Chelsea Riffe: I have never changed the sales page since we worked together because I was like, yep, this is it. This is exactly what I wanted to say. This is exactly what I want people to feel because she's just so genius at what she does and she really is good at the internet. She talks about that a lot in her Pretty Decent community.

[00:01:36] Chelsea Riffe: She wants to help you get good at the internet. Now, obviously I wanna be good at the internet cuz that's where I spend a lot of my time. But really what drew to Lexi's work was her very grounded and down to earth nature of teaching. She really embodies that wise teacher archetype and the creative genius archetype at the same time.

[00:01:54] Chelsea Riffe: I love that she prioritizes your dream work life and what is the essence of your [00:02:00] goals? What are you trying to feel when you accomplish these goals as the center of her work? That's what really drew me into work with her. So the life you see that I live now of traveling all the time and like having Fridays off and being able to be really flexible with my schedule.

[00:02:14] Chelsea Riffe: It was not by accident. I have been so intentional in how I build my business and audit my time. And Lexi was a massive proponent in helping me get there. So you're really gonna enjoy this episode. We talked about how Pretty Decent actually went from like a Tumblr account to a full-blown online community.

[00:02:31] Chelsea Riffe: We talk a lot about experimentation with launches and content. We definitely talk about dream work life alignment, as well as flashy sales and lux marketing and like what that means and our opinions on that. And you know, I value transparency and context. So something that Lexi is really good at is Launch Strategy.

[00:02:48] Chelsea Riffe: She's actually a launch strategist. That's again why I hired her to help me launch Mic Drop last summer. And I asked her though, like, have you actually dealt with a failed launch? What do you do when no one shows up to the Zoom or no one [00:03:00] signs up for your course after you put so much effort into it? And then we talk about something that I really want to highlight on the podcast more is being in a relationship while you're an entrepreneur.

[00:03:11] Chelsea Riffe: There are so many benefits to being in a relationship while navigating entrepreneurship, like financial privilege, emotional support, basic needs being met that I don't think a lot of people talk about. I've been making fun of people that they're like, I don't think a lot of people talk about this, and now I'm doing it, but like I really never hear people talk about the privilege of being in a relationship while you're running a business.

[00:03:34] Chelsea Riffe: I know personally, I've run a business with a partner and without a partner, and those experiences were very different. I've had to navigate now meeting a lot of my own needs and not having someone around to support me emotionally or financially or mentally. It's a whole different ballgame. So Lexi's in a relationship and opened up about the amazing things that go with that, and some things that are just straight up annoying.

[00:03:57] Chelsea Riffe: And ultimately, I think the message that we both really wanted to [00:04:00] highlight here is allowing your humanity in your business. It's okay to build launches around your life and your energy and your experiences, and it's okay to have a heartbreak day or a nap or mental health day in a world that constantly pushes us to work at breakneck speed and practically bend over backwards for everyone just to sell something is not a world I wanna live in, and neither does Lexi.

[00:04:28] Chelsea Riffe: So that's why I really wanted her to come on this podcast to talk about building that dream work life and how we can make space for humanity while we run our online businesses. Speaking of Mic Drop and how Lexi totally helped me remarket that it is now on demand, so you can now take Mic Drop at your own pace.

[00:04:44] Chelsea Riffe: I'm a Virgo Moon and Virgo rising, so I absolutely hate fluff. Each module is like no longer than 15 minutes, and there's a checklist to follow for success. So if you wanna stay on a timeline and you wanna make sure you're getting through all the modules, again, there's a path that you can take and you can launch in [00:05:00] as little as four weeks.

[00:05:01] Chelsea Riffe: I walk you through every single thing around starting a podcast, from finding a name, to creating cover art, to editing, to publishing best practices, and recording marketing and promotion. I know all the steps involved to launch a podcast can feel overwhelming, and I've been doing it for so long. I've collected more data into what people need, and that's exactly how Mic Drop was birthed into the world.

[00:05:23] Chelsea Riffe: Thinking of every single thing that you need to launch a podcast and making sure you can do it in a way that feels good to you and aligned with your energy, your goals, your visions, your needs, you'll learn all that inside Mic Drop. You can find more info in the link in my show notes, and if you enroll, DM me at Chelsea Riffe or email me [email protected] and let's celebrate and buckle up because podcasting is one of the most fun, exciting, expansive, creative things I've ever done for myself, and I cannot wait to see what you do with your journey.
